Great news! Ruth Fluevog from Fluevog shoes and boots has committed to donate $2,000 per month to Up With Hope from April until December 2009. This will make a huge impact on the youth groups from Nairobi that are trying to improve their communities.

Based on the incredible success from the Up With Hope art show hosted by the Centre A gallery, we have now raised enough money to return to Nairobi, Kenya to continue our project of improving the living conditions for those living in the slums. We will be working in two new areas of Nairobi: Mathare and Makadara in addition to Kibera.

We will be working with over 25 new youth groups in these areas that will be forming local networks to battle the waste problems that plague Nairobi. This is going to be an exciting project to be a part of and it has been made possible because of all those that have been so helpful in this whole fundraising process.

Word of the Kibera project has spread to other slums around Nairobi. There are now over 15 youth groups that represent over 1300 youth that are looking to begin similar waste management programs in their areas. The Environmental Youth Alliance is working on creating a network that will connect the youth groups in Nairobi that are either currently running waste management programs or looking to start one.

This umbrella organization will make it easier for the youth to receive assistance from the government or other organizations. It will also provide the youth groups with a unified voice when demanding proper sanitation and waste management from local governments.

Currently, EYA is unable to fund all of these groups to build similar centres but is working on project similar to the last year's Kibera Calendar Project to raise funds.

Those who wish to help start up a new facility can make direct contributions through links provided on this website.
